Day 114: Happy Earth Day!

iseloom's photostream

I know these days you can't blink without seeing some sort of 'green' push.

It just wouldn't be right if I didn't join the crowd! I love that these issues are so talked about now. I just hope that people are making real life changes, not just riding the trend. In any case...here are some ways to incorporate some green into your everyday lives.

Real Simple has compiled a list of easy changes with their Green Living 101.

Wire & Twine's '50 Ways to Help the Planet' also has lots of green tips.

Mark and I have already made a few changes and plan to make more once we get in our house(t minus 4 days!)

what we've done so far:
switched to CFL lightbulbs
significantly cut back on using the heating/cooling system
use only cold water for washing clothes
recycle our plastic bags

what we'd like to do once we're in our house:
line dry most of our clothes
create a compost pile
shop locally for fruits and vegetables
recycle! We'll finally have room to sort!
switching to cloth grocery bags
insulate our home well to cut down on heating/cooling even more

Are you making any changes to be more green?

I love that you guys are so "green"! M & Graham would probably get along well; or maybe we all would! We recycle, and we've switched to CFLs, we only use cold water to wash clothes, and this summer we're hoping to hang a clothes line on our balcony.

We've also started planting our own tomatoes and flowers to get off the grid a little. If we're planting our own, then we're not contributing to the high prices at the grocery stores and we're also saving gas. We're hoping to visit some farmer's markets this summer.

We'll have to exchange some green tips this summer!
